New caps for a pool-cover reel in Parede.
A private client in Parede had lost both top caps from the two square posts that hold their pool-cover reel. The originals were white moulded plastic, probably PP or PE, aged by years of sun: one was cracked through with a large hole, the other had broken away entirely. One post carries the motor's power cables, so the caps also keep rain out. We measured the posts on site with calipers, took the broken cap back as a reference and rebuilt it in CAD. After a test print we replaced the original's moulded fins with a custom TPU gasket, with the client's approval. The pair is printed in white ASA, which is UV-stable, with the black TPU seal bonded in. take-two is a 3D engineering studio in Cascais, Portugal, and most of our work is replacement parts like these. What happened to the original caps?
Both posts had lost their caps. The originals were white moulded plastic, probably PP or PE, and years of sun outdoors had made them brittle. One was cracked through, with a large hole in the top. The other had broken and was missing entirely.
One of the posts also carries the motor's power cables, so an open top lets rain in where it should not go.

Measured on site, not scanned.
The posts were measured on site with calipers: 120 × 120 mm outside, 114 × 114 mm inside. The broken cap came back to the studio as a reference for the shape: the stepped skirt, the radial ribs under the top, and the moulded fins that gripped the inside of the post.
We rebuilt it in CAD rather than copying the broken part, so the new cap is drawn to the post's real size instead of reproducing the warping and the damage.

Why a TPU seal instead of the original fins?
The original gripped the post with moulded plastic fins. Our first test cap copied them. After fitting it on the post, we proposed replacing the fins with a custom TPU gasket, printed for this client's posts, for a tighter seal and better durability. The client approved the change before the final pair was made.
The cap is white ASA: it is UV-stable, which is why it is our choice for parts that live in direct sun. The black TPU gasket is printed on its own, then bonded into the cap under clamps.

Fitted in Parede.
Measured on 25 September 2026 and delivered on 30 September: a matching pair, one cap for each post, so the post with the motor cables is closed against the rain again.
